Every time I hear an exceptional Black woman ask, "Why me? Why should I be the one who succeeds on social media?" it breaks my heart. The reason you should be successful on social media is so
OBVIOUS to me, and the fact that it isn’t obvious to you shows just how much you’ve been gaslit by the system. Here's how I know you've got it.
You’ve Proven You Can Do Hard Things
Made it through corporate America or academia as a Black woman and still standing?
The challenges you’ve faced are far harder than anything you’ll encounter on social media.
If you are: Educated and experienced
and
have valuable knowledge and insights that need to be shared, all you need to do is translate that knowledge to the digital space.
Many of you are doctors, therapists or coaches, with a track record of changing people’s lives. What else could we want!
You Feel It In Your Heart
Stop waiting for someone else to tell you that you’re worth it.
If you know deep down that you have a voice that needs to be heard, how many more times are you going to silence it?
You can't wait until someone else discovers you.
I know this might hurt to hear because
You’ve already done so much—you’ve gone to school, earned certifications, started a business. It might feel like: “Really? I have to do more?”
But yes, you do. Not because you aren’t enough, but because the world isn’t going to hand you the recognition you deserve. You have to take it.
Buy into yourself first, and when you do, others will follow.
Don't wait for some outside force to come in and tell you who the f*ck you are.
You don't need to be a Rihanna
Reject the idea that you need to be famous or have a huge following
You have to define success on your own terms.
If your idea of success is simply gaining followers, social media might not be worth your time. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has said that followers aren't a measure of relevance anymore; it’s about views and interactions. But even those metrics aren’t everything. For me, success is about building a life and a business that pays well, feels good, and helps others.
You can have a successful business with 500 followers, as long as they are the right ones, and be depressed and broke with100K followers. What it takes to succeed on social media is your choice.
If I’m so great, why hasn’t it happened for me yet?
Your strategy is terrible, not you!
The algorithm will find people who are interested in you for who you are—if you know how to work with it.
The reason 95% of my clients go viral is because I work with people who can say yes to all of the above and then I provide a strategy that best fits this type of person. What I do does not work for everyone, but it works for her. My strategy that garners millions of views, and builds massive followings all starts with you. Yes, you, I chose you for a reason. Now it's time to choose yourself.
